About Widgets

Widgets are dynamic, modular components used to visualize and interact with your project data. They live inside dashboards and allow teams to structure information in meaningful, context-rich layouts.

Adding Widgets to a Dashboard

On the dashboard page, the layout is split into two sections:

Header Section (top): - Dashboard Name - Reorder Widgets button - Edit Dashboard Details button - New Widget button - Layout Toggle button

Clicking the New Widget button opens a selection menu where users can choose from the following types:

  • Landscape
  • Timeline
  • Calendar
  • Factsheet
  • Geographies
  • Content
  • Carousel
  • Attachment
  • Email Alerts

Once selected, the widget appears in the dashboard’s grid layout.

Widget Creation Process

When creating any widget, a setup modal appears with the following standard fields:

  • Widget Name: Title displayed at the top of the widget
  • Description: Optional text describing its purpose
  • Tags: Searchable internal tags for organization
  • Library Widget Toggle: Optionally mark the widget as reusable (acts like a template)

After completing this setup, additional configuration options specific to the selected widget type will follow.

Available Widget Types

Here is a quick overview of the widgets you can add:

  • Landscape: Displays trials grouped by phase in expandable cards.
  • Timeline: Shows trials as pill markers along a timeline with milestone projections.
  • Calendar: Monthly view for adding and tracking events like deadlines or meetings.
  • Factsheet: Lists trials as vertically stacked, collapsible cards.
  • Geography: Interactive map showing trials by country and region, with legends.
  • Content: A single-page rich text block for reports, summaries, or notes.
  • Carousel: Multi-page slider for presenting grouped content with text and attachments.
  • Attachment: Upload and preview a single file like a PDF or image.
  • Email Alerts: Displays a list or record of email alerts sent in the project.

For details on each type, visit the corresponding widget documentation page.

Layout and Reordering

Widgets are placed on a dynamic grid layout. They automatically resize and reposition to optimize space.

Key behaviors include:

  • Widgets cannot be manually resized, but scale automatically to fit.
  • Each widget includes an Expand button in the bottom-right corner.
  • Users can reorder widgets freely using the Reorder function in the dashboard header.

Widget Controls

All widgets include standard tools for consistency and usability:

  • Expand Button: View the widget in full-screen mode.
  • Comment Button: Opens a sidebar with discussion on that specific widget. Shows a badge for new comments.
  • Three-Dot Menu (⋮):
  • Edit the widget
  • Duplicate the widget
  • Remove the widget

Library Widgets

During creation, users can choose to make any widget a Library Widget by toggling the library setting. Library widgets are reusable and act like templates, making it easy to replicate consistent layouts across dashboards.

Trial-Based Widgets

The following widgets are trial-driven:

  • Landscape
  • Timeline
  • Factsheet
  • Geography

These allow users to:

  • Add trials via NCT ID (automatically pulls trial data)
  • Create trials manually (enter trial details directly)
  • View trial details in an expandable sidebar

Each widget presents trials differently (e.g., grouped by phase, shown over time, mapped geographically).

Advanced Features

Some widgets include additional functionality:

  • Timeline Milestones: Project regulatory or data-related milestones based on trial completion dates.
  • Geography Legends: Customize country, region, and trial colors to visualize project distribution on a world map.

Permissions

All users assigned to the project dashboard can:

  • Add, edit, reorder, and remove widgets
  • Comment on widgets and view existing discussions

No additional permissions are required to manage widgets within a dashboard.
