Geography Widget

The Geography widget allows users to visualize the global distribution of trials on an interactive world map. It highlights where trials are being conducted and provides clear visual differentiation using configurable map and trial legends.

Purpose

Use the Geography widget when you need to:

  • Show where trials are active across countries and regions
  • Highlight trial activity using custom color-coded legends
  • Enable interactive exploration of global trial data

Creating a Geography Widget

After completing the standard setup (see “Widget Creation Process”), you’ll be able to configure:

  • Countries Color: Single color to highlight countries with trials
  • Regions Color: Color for broader regions
  • Trial Legends: Multiple color-coded labels to categorize trials
  • Map Legend (Updated Trials): A predefined color to indicate recently updated trial data

Trial data can be added the same way as the Factsheet or Landscape widget:

  • Enter NCT IDs
  • Manually create trials and define their testing regions

Using the Widget

Map Display

The Geography widget shows a zoomable world map, where each country is shaded based on:

  • Whether trials are active there
  • Whether trials have been recently updated
  • Custom trial or region colors assigned during setup

Legends

Two legends appear alongside the map:

  • Trial Legend: Displays color-coded labels linked to trials (e.g., “Oncology,” “Phase 3,” etc.)
  • Map Legend: Shows the meaning of country and region colors and includes a special entry for Updated Trials

Only one Country Color and one Region Color can be used, but multiple Trial Legend entries are supported.

  • Scroll to zoom in or out
  • Click a country to open a popup card:

  • Vertical list of trial pills, color-coded using the Trial Legend
  • Click a trial pill to open the full trial detail sidebar
